Recent Seasons on the Solent has seen the Farr 45 fleet be far and away one of the biggest and most competitive Big Boat One Design Fleets around. With new owners joining the fleet over the past half a dozen seasons the fleet has kept its strength and competitiveness that makes the class so appealing. Throughout this time UK Sails Hamble, now One Sails United Kingdom has been developing its designs and materials to keep our boats at the forefront of the Fleet. The new Grand Prix Millenium Sails we have in the Class now are proving to be a real Force with Our Sails taking Farr 45 Boat of the Year whilst another took the IRM National Championships which was solely contested by 10 Farr 45’s. With the recent move to One Sails we have been able to put some serious time and quality into getting our 45’s the edge this season. Back in early March we ran two training weekends for the One Sails Farr 45’s and having brought over some of the Groups top Designers from Italy as well some current Americas Cup sailors from within the group all the boats found it to be hugely helpful. New sails were developed on what the designers had seen after being out sailing on the boats, a better understanding and knowledge of rig tune came from the AC Sailors and all round sense of teamwork between the sailmaker and the boats. With all this hard work the early signs are good, the final results of the first Big Boat Weekend saw 2 of the top 3 positions occupied by One Sails Boats. The second Big Boat Weekend was even more successful as ‘Alice II’ with her newly designed Millenium Mainsail following the training in March took 3 firsts, a second and a fifth to take the Weekend convincingly. We at One Sails take an awful lot of pride at seeing our boats do well and we always endeavour to do our very best to help you get your boat there. Following the training in March we are looking to continue this training with more throughout the season and then again early in 2009.
